Fiji’s BPO sector offers career dev’t opportunities, says BPO Council executive

SUVA, FIJI — The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in Fiji is a good option for career development, said Erik Van Duivenbode, executive committee member of the BPO Council of Fiji.
Speaking at an event for employees who completed a BPO upskilling course, Van Duivenbode highlighted the evolution of the industry and the potential for career growth within it.
According to him, there was a lack of formal education for entering the industry in the past, making it a relatively new concept for many people. However, within BPO companies, even as startups, there are clear career progression paths with roles such as team leaders, managers, and trainers.
Van Duivenbode also noted that those who start at entry-level positions often possess comprehensive knowledge of the industry and can become highly effective managers.
Moreover, the BPO Council executive member described the BPO sector in Fiji as something that provides long-term career opportunities rather than temporary jobs,
“This is not just a starter job; this is a career,” Van Duivenbode concluded.
