Fiji’s first BPO certification course opens in FNU

Fiji’s first ever contact center certification program that covers all basic operations in call centers was launched at the Fiji National University (FNU) in the capital city of Suva.
BPO Council Chairperson Carol Watkins said that this program could address “the skill gap” in the country’s labor market. She stated that the outsourcing course “will reduce training costs for the BPOs, reduce the time taken to onboard clients, and will also increase [the] capacity of resources available that are matched with the industry requirements.”
Watkins added that the launch brought the council closer to its goal of creating awareness for the industry globally and putting Fiji as the outsourcing destination of choice.
The council chairperson noted that if Fiji can capture just five per cent of Australia’s US$38 million BPO industry over the next 10 years, then that would amount to 39% (US$1.9 billion) of Fiji’s GDP in 2020.
Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was the chief guest at the launch.
