Filipino job seekers prioritize workplace diversity, inclusivity over salary
Over 50% of Filipino job seekers will reportedly refuse to work for employers whose practices do not align with their beliefs of genuineness and inclusivity, said JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.
During a virtual luncheon, Gioca explained that most applicants today like to prioritize the company’s culture and environment over salary and job offers. However, the employment website’s country lead countered that workplace Inclusivity “is not something that can be nurtured overnight.” He added that it mostly takes a whole organization — from leaders at the highest level to the junior team members —- to achieve this.
“Whatever the top tolerates, it is tolerated by the entire group… [how] the top behaves — that’s exactly how the members of the team and the company would behave,” he said.
The role of the higher management is more than just making decisions that affect the whole organization — they also set the expectations for how each employee treats another, he continued.
With the workplace becoming more diverse, Gioca advised employers to consider employee differences with the workplace becoming more diverse. This means organizing conduct sensitivity training for all the staff and adopting programs based on the needs of their employees.
“Inclusivity… [is] not just allowing people to be tolerated, but it’s important that people are valued and appreciated because many things can happen in diverse teams. You won’t believe what they can do, and they can reach impossible things together,” Gioca concluded.
