Filipinos to expect more job opportunities next year

In a quarterly survey conducted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), more firms indicated willingness to start expanding their workforce in the first quarter of 2021.
After the record-high unemployment rate in the country due to the restrictive lockdowns, the survey’s employment outlook index returned to the positive territory for the first quarter of 2021 at 5.3 per cent – a turnaround from the -5.5 percent in the previous quarter.
Business’ expansion plans also climbed to 16.9% for the first quarter of 2021, up 5.9% from the previous quarter’s survey.
The central bank also noted that an increased number of firms expressed expansion plans for 2021, except for the agriculture, fishery and forestry sub-sector, which declined.
