Firstsource names new AI-led healthcare leaders in North America

LOUISVILLE, UNITED STATES — Firstsource Solutions, a global business process management firm, has named two senior executives to separately lead its expanding healthcare payer and provider divisions in North America, signaling a strategic shift toward segment-specific leadership to capture growth in the transforming medical sector.
Matthew Barlow and Scott Schrader will helm the payer and provider businesses, respectively, tasked with advancing AI-driven solutions for clients navigating cost and complexity pressures.
Firstsource splits payer, provider healthcare leadership
The company has acknowledged that although both insurance payers and care providers face problematic demands, including rising costs and regulatory requirements, their directions and immediate needs are very different.
“Meeting these challenges requires more than incremental improvement; it demands a fundamentally different operating model built on AI, data, and digital platforms, grounded in deep healthcare domain expertise,” said Ritesh Idnani, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Firstsource.
The new structure will also enable it to be more focused on each client type and to adopt more tailored strategies and responsive innovation, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
This purposeful segmenting highlights the focus on Firstsource in the domain area as a competitive advantage.
The firm seeks to establish more meaningful partnerships by placing experienced individuals who have worked in some segments of the company, including Barlow in payer and technology advisory, and Schrader in provider revenue cycle management.
The goal is to leverage specialized knowledge to design solutions that address the unique challenges of health plans versus hospital systems, thereby strengthening their position across the entire healthcare value chain.
Firstsource doubles down on AI-first healthcare model
The appointments are the centerpiece of UnBPO’s philosophy, appointed by Firstsource, aiming to go beyond conventional outsourcing by integrating artificial intelligence and digital platforms into fundamental healthcare activities.
Leadership underscores that the next step toward success is to make a fundamental change in operating models, not minor ones.
The firm is branding itself as a collaborator that employs exclusive AI solutions and healthcare-intuitive platforms to help clients build resilient, smart, and productive companies.
This technology-enabled approach is already operational, with Firstsource’s systems handling over 2 billion transactions annually for a client base of more than 1,000 hospitals and 30,000 providers.
“I am eager to lead a team that goes beyond process optimization to address the real, complex challenges that keep CFOs and revenue cycle executives awake at night,” stressed Scott Schrader, Head, Healthcare Provider business at Firstsource.
Barlow echoed this statement and emphasized that “Our goal is simple: enable health plans to meet today’s challenges while building resilient, AI-ready organizations for the future.”
The new leaders are charged with expanding these AI-first solutions to drive measurable outcomes in efficiency, patient experience, and financial performance.
Their mandate confirms that the future of healthcare business process management is inextricably linked to the seamless, end-to-end integration of advanced technology and deep sector expertise.
Firstsource ranked #30 in the OA500 2025, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.
