ABUJA, NIGERIA — Innovation and technology institution FITC recently launched its Future of Work Academy (FOWA) to prepare Nigerian youth for the changing demands of the 21st-century workplace.

FOWA was unveiled during the Future of Work roundtable event organized by FITC.

In her welcome address, FITC CEO Chizor Malize said the pace of technological advances, especially in artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, means young people must have the skills to thrive in a “dynamic and ever-changing” work environment.

Malize also underscored FITC’s crucial role in building bridges between the highly creative African youth and organizations seeking appropriate talents to fill their workforce needs. Through FOWA, FITC would initiate employment opportunities by providing internships and job placements for its students.

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor Of Operations Adebisi Shonubi added that technical and soft skills would be important and urged young people to develop cognitive skills, such as problem-solving, logical thinking, and understanding biases in datasets and technology.

Meanwhile, NIBSS Head Of Fraud Management Olusola Olodude said businesses need to train staff in technical and soft skills to strike the right balance.

He suggested cross-functional team engagement and partnering with organizations like FITC for skills development and collaboration.

FITC’s FOWA is comprised of seven schools, namely the School of Data Analytics, School of Data Science, School of Cyber Security, School of Coding, School of Graphic Design, School of Digital Marketing, and School of Product Design and Management.
