Fortrea taps Cognizant to enhance healthcare infrastructure

TEANECK, N.J. and DURHAM, N.C. — Contract research organization (CRO) firm Fortrea has tapped outsourcing giant Cognizant to enhance its healthcare systems with the latest technologies.
Under the four-year agreement, Cognizant will equip Fortrea’s digital platforms to prepare it for the latest hybrid cloud models so it may achieve seamless integration across various contact points. Cognizant is also looking to upgrade Fortrea’s data and analytical capabilities.
Fortrea Chief Executive Officer Alejandro Martinez Galindo noted that they will specifically invest in their clinical applications and platforms.
“As we build the infrastructure that’s essential to supporting these platforms and quickly delivering the insights our customers rely on, we have the opportunity to be ‘born digital.’ Our new modern ecosystem will be designed to speed decision making with innovation in clinical development,” Galindo said.
Fortrea provides phase I-IV clinical trial management, clinical pharmacology, differentiated technology-enabled trial solutions and post-approval services. It employs over 19,000 people in more than 90 countries.
In August 2023, Cognizant announced its initiatives to craft healthcare large language model (LLM) solutions, in collaboration with Google Cloud’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology. LLMs can simplify various administrative tasks, which reduces workloads and costs, and improves accuracy.
In addition to amplifying its digital platforms, Cognizant will also aid in Fortrea’s Transition Service Agreements with its former parent company, Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (Labcorp). With Cognizant’s help, Fortrea is looking to transition into a global infrastructure, application management, and end-user services.
