Frontline buys KL Software to bring AI apps to its law firm clients

- Frontline Managed Services acquired legal technology developer KL Software Technologies.
- Frontline launched Frontline Intelligent Applications on the back of the deal.
- KL Software serves more than 30 Am Law firms.
- Frontline supports hundreds of law firms and more than 300 legal applications.
MISSOURI, UNITED STATES — Frontline Managed Services, which runs business and IT operations for law firms, has acquired KL Software Technologies and its affiliate KLoBot to add Microsoft cloud and AI engineering. The deal launches a new unit that builds and manages the applications law firms use every day.
A new applications business
KL Software’s engineering team will form the base of Frontline Intelligent Applications, a business that covers strategic advisory, professional services, managed application services and connected legal applications, Frontline said in an announcement on Oct. 6.
The deal follows a strategic partnership between the two companies announced earlier this year. KL Software serves more than 30 Am Law firms, has delivered more than 35 law firm intranet portals in the past three years and is helping firms implement agentic process automation using Microsoft Copilot.
Strategic advisory will cover Microsoft ecosystem design, document management strategy and AI readiness. Professional services will cover Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, Azure, iManage and NetDocuments implementation.
“We can help firms use their technology and data more intelligently to accelerate operations, improve performance, and ultimately drive better business results,” said Tim Britt, chief executive officer of Frontline Managed Services.
Engineering meets managed operations
KL Software founder Ragav Jagannathan, who has worked on more than 300 SharePoint implementations for Am Law 100 firms and Fortune 100 legal departments, will lead the new unit’s portfolio.
“Our vision has always been to help law firms create digital workplaces that make technology simpler and more useful for the people who rely on it every day,” Jagannathan said. “Joining Frontline gives our team the opportunity to bring that expertise to more firms.”
Frontline clients gain access to KL Software’s applications, including netDocShare, imDocShare, KLapper and Legal101, along with SharePoint and Microsoft Copilot consulting.
KL Software clients gain Frontline’s cybersecurity, infrastructure, managed IT and business operations services.
Frontline, which has nearly four decades of legal industry experience, supports hundreds of law firms and more than 300 legal applications worldwide. Its services also include financial operations and technology-enabled business operations.
For law firms, the deal puts application engineering and day-to-day operations under one provider. Firms that use legal outsourcing or IT managed services should ask how AI tools such as Copilot will be governed inside document management systems.
Companies comparing partners can benchmark them against the top BPO companies worldwide.
