Gen Z workers to overtake Boomers in 2024 — U.S. study
CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Generation Z is poised to overtake Baby Boomers next year as the most populous generation in the United States workforce, according to a new report by job search website Glassdoor.
The shift in workforce demographics will be “a pivotal moment of cultural change,” said Glassdoor economists.
“Gen Z workers – who care deeply about community connections, about having their voices heard in the workplace, about transparent and responsive leadership, and about diversity and inclusion – make up a rapidly growing share of the workforce,” the report said.
Forbes previously included Gen Z among next year’s workplace trends to watch for, saying that they will comprise 23% of employees globally.
On the other hand, Glassdoor doesn’t see Gen Z outnumbering Millennials in the workforce until sometime in the early 2040s.
Another key finding of the report was about flexibility or remote work. Remote jobs may have decreased, but they continue to thrive at mid-sized and small companies.
“In 2024, flexibility will be a key factor in draw talent away from large companies.”
A lot of researchers have already suggested that flexible work arrangements provide a wide range of well-being benefits to employees. It also helps drive productivity and employee engagement.
