Global economy to sustain PH IT-BPM industry
MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Philippine Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry is expected to experience sustained growth due to the opening of the global economy, said Ateneo School of Government Dean Philip Arnold Tuaño.
According to Tuaño, the Philippine IT-BPM sector will sustain its momentum due to the increased demand and the global economy’s recovery after strict COVID-19 restrictions.
Tuaño stated that the IT-BPM sector heavily depends on contacts from abroad, and the industry will help increase the country’s export earnings. He further noted that the IT-BPM industry would also thrive in the short and medium term for export earnings.
However, the dean added that the arrival of the XBB.1.16 COVID-19 subvariant — first detected in Western Visayas — may affect the industry’s workforce and ability to work.
Despite this, Tuaño remains optimistic about the future of the IT-BPM industry, especially with the continued growth of the global economy. He also said the industry would help increase the country’s export earnings in the coming years.
