HYDERABAD, INDIA — The global healthcare business process outsourcing (BPO) market is projected to exceed $600 billion by 2033, driven by rising cost pressures, staffing shortages, and rapid digital transformation across the healthcare industry, according to a new report from DataM Intelligence (DMI)

The sector, which reached $260.45 billion in 2025, is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11% between 2026 and 2033 as providers and payers increasingly outsource non-core functions to improve efficiency and scalability.

AI and digital tools reshape healthcare outsourcing

Healthcare organizations are turning to advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotic process automation, and cloud platforms to streamline operations ranging from billing to clinical support.

The DMI report notes that the shift is part of a broader industry response to “rising operational complexities, staffing shortages, and the push for digital transformation in patient care and billing.”

This transformation is particularly visible in revenue cycle management (RCM), where automation is improving claims accuracy and reducing administrative burden.

In March 2026, Cognizant launched an AI-powered RCM platform that enhanced claims processing accuracy by 25% for United States hospitals through predictive denial prevention and automated coding.

Similarly, Accenture introduced a cloud-based R&D outsourcing suite in January 2026, while Optum reported a 27% year-over-year revenue increase from its analytics-driven patient financial engagement services in late 2025.

Regional expansion led by North America and Asia-Pacific

North America remains the largest market, accounting for 38.5% of global share, supported by strong payer-provider systems and early adoption of digital healthcare solutions

Asia-Pacific, however, is the fastest-growing region at a projected 12.5% CAGR, fueled by cost-efficient outsourcing hubs in India and expanding pharmaceutical services in China.

Japan is also emerging as a key innovation hub. Fujitsu deployed a generative AI-based clinical data processing tool in February 2026 after successful trials with universities, while NTT Data introduced an RPA-integrated billing system to automate complex hospital claims processing.

The DMI report highlights that “this growth underscores a shift toward scalable BPO solutions that streamline revenue cycles, enhance claims processing, and support pharma R&D amid aging populations and chronic disease surges worldwide.”

Competitive landscape intensifies among global players

Major industry players including Accenture, Cognizant Technology Solutions, IQVIA, Genpact, and UnitedHealth Group’s Optum are accelerating investments in AI-driven outsourcing platforms.

These firms are focusing on end-to-end solutions spanning payer services, clinical research support, and patient engagement systems.

IQVIA, for instance, has integrated analytics into pharma outsourcing services to accelerate drug development timelines, while Genpact’s AI platform has reduced insurer churn by 15% through predictive insights.

As competition intensifies, companies are increasingly differentiating through automation, data analytics, and integrated healthcare ecosystems.

Overall, the healthcare BPO market’s rapid expansion reflects a broader restructuring of global healthcare delivery. Outsourcing is no longer limited to cost-cutting; it is becoming a strategic tool for innovation, efficiency, and scalability.

As digital technologies mature and healthcare systems face mounting operational strain, BPO providers are positioning themselves as central players in the future of global healthcare infrastructure.
