Google set to introduce AI software agent soon

CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Tech giant Google is preparing to introduce a new artificial intelligence agent designed specifically to help software engineers, according to a report from The Information.
The software AI agent, which has been demonstrated internally and to select outside developers, is intended to assist engineers at every stage of the software development process, from responding to tasks to documenting code. Three people familiar with the demonstrations described the agent as a tool that could streamline and enhance coding workflows for development teams.
Gemini integration and XR glasses demo expected
In addition to the AI agent, Google is expected to showcase the integration of its Gemini AI chatbot in voice mode with Android XR smart glasses and headsets at its annual developer conference, Google I/O, which begins May 20 in Mountain View, California.
The Gemini AI, Google’s flagship multimodal large language model, is already known for its ability to process and understand language, images, and code. The demonstration is likely to highlight how Gemini can be used hands-free in augmented reality devices, enabling features such as real-time translation, notifications, and contextual assistance through wearable technology.
Pressure mounts as AI takes center stage
The upcoming Google I/O conference is expected to focus heavily on AI, with CEO Sundar Pichai and other executives set to announce major updates to Google’s product lineup. Investors have been pressing Google to show tangible returns on its substantial investments in AI as competition in the industry intensifies and regulatory scrutiny increases.
Google has not commented publicly on the reported AI agent or the planned demonstrations. However, anticipation is high, with AI advancements, including updates to the Gemini model and new developer tools, expected to headline the event.
Deep Research and future features
Separately, Google is also testing a new feature for its Deep Research tool, allowing users to upload files, including images, source code, and documents, for more tailored research insights.
Google I/O 2025 will be closely watched for announcements that could reshape the company’s AI strategy and its role in the broader technology landscape.
