Google, IBPAP team up to upskill Philippine BPO workforce

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) recently partnered with Google to enhance the skills of Filipino workers in the IT-BPM sector.
This collaboration is a key initiative under IBPAP’s Roadmap 2028, which aims to position the Philippines as a global leader in the industry by addressing talent development and competitiveness challenges.
Through Google Career Certificates, Filipino professionals will gain certifications in high-demand fields such as cybersecurity, data analytics, IT support, UX design, and project management. Participants will also have access to Google’s AI Essentials course on Coursera, equipping them with essential artificial intelligence (AI) skills critical for navigating the evolving IT-BPM landscape.
AI training to future-proof the workforce
Speaking at the 16th International IT-BPM Summit, IBPAP President Jack Madrid emphasized the transformative role of AI in reshaping the industry.
“Gen AI will not replace people, but people who use Gen AI will replace people who don’t,” Madrid said. He stressed that generative AI is about improving how work gets done and making people central to its adoption.
This partnership is expected to help IBPAP achieve its ambitious Roadmap 2028 targets of generating $59 billion in revenues and creating 2.5 million jobs by 2028.
In 2024, the sector recorded $38 billion in revenue and employed 1.82 million workers, highlighting its significant contribution to the Philippine economy.
Driving economic growth through digital upskilling
Google Philippines and Thailand Country Director Jackie Wang expressed optimism about the collaboration.
“By equipping Filipinos with in-demand skills, we hope to contribute to the country’s economic progress and digital future,” Wang said. She added that Google’s focus on AI and upskilling demonstrates its commitment to fostering growth in the Philippines.
This initiative not only addresses existing skills gaps but also prepares Filipino workers for higher-value roles in the global IT-BPM market.
“This partnership is key to reinforcing the Philippines’ position as a global IT-BPM leader,” Madrid added.
With this collaboration, IBPAP and Google aim to ensure that Filipino talent remains competitive in an increasingly digital and AI-driven global job market, solidifying the country’s reputation as a hub for high-complexity IT-BPM services.
