Google parent loses $172.95 billion after AI chatbot error

 CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Alphabet’s shares fell anew Thursday, this time by 4.9%. 

The Google parent firm has lost $172.95 billion in market cap over two consecutive days, making it the company’s largest two-day market cap loss on record.

The stumble comes after Google published an online demo ad where its new artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot system, Bard, provided an incorrect response to a search query.

Competition has heated up in the AI space. Earlier this week, Microsoft announced it is redesigning its search engine in cooperation with OpenAI, the company behind the hugely successful ChatGPT.
