Google to hold off hiring this year

Tech giant Google decided to slow down the pace of hiring for the rest of the year as it plans to be “more entrepreneurial” and work with “greater urgency, sharper focus, and more hunger” towards new goals.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in an internal memo that like all companies, the firm has been affected by economic headwinds and the uncertain global economic outlook.
The pullback on recruitment, he added, will mean “pausing development and re-deploying resources to higher priority areas” to deepen the company’s focus and invest for the long term.
However, the Google CEO assured his workforce that the company was not freezing its recruitment entirely. Engineering, technical, and other critical roles are still open for capable applicants.
Google is not the only one hitting pause on recruitment. Big-name companies Uber, Meta, Spotify, and Snap, have all announced their plans to slow down on recruiting new individuals due to the inflation, war in Eastern Europe, and the continuing effects of COVID-19. Meanwhile, Twitter, Netflix, and GameStop have recently decided to lay off employees.
