‘Green’ biz growth relies on its viability as awareness grows

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez said that the growth of the “green economy” will depend on the businesses’ viability, as opportunities and public awareness are starting to grow in the country.
During a webinar, Lopez stated that a “ready market” exists for environment-friendly products, with consumers becoming more aware of the need for zero-waste living.
He explained that the sector needs to be “economically rewarding to all participants in the so-called value chain.”
Lopez added that Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) can explore solar energy and focus on fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) if they want to become ‘green.’
Meanwhile, Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Materials Sustainability Founding President Crispian Lao said that there is an opportunity for “inclusive growth” in the green economy.
He explained that “when the bigger companies design packaging and develop locally, these types of packaging can now be made available even to MSMEs.”
