Guthrie to outsource 25% of its IT positions in 2024

PENNSYLVANIA, UNITED STATES — Health system Guthrie is outsourcing 25% of its information technology (IT) positions to tech services and consulting firm HTC Global Services starting in March 2024.
Around 18 IT jobs are expected to transition from Guthrie to HTC employment during this transition.
In a statement, Guthrie said that the affected IT team members “will continue to directly support Guthrie’s work and mission” as HTC employees.
The move also aims to aid Guthrie’s financial transformation amid recent operating struggles. Guthrie reported a $72 million operating loss in 2023, with over $50 million tied to extra staffing costs.
“This partnership with HTC will allow us to make the necessary transformation while valuing the current team,” said a Guthrie spokesperson. They expressed optimism that HTC’s additional investments will benefit Guthrie and regional communities.
As a major regional employer providing over 6,500 jobs, Guthrie’s outsourcing of select IT positions raised some concerns about local impacts. Community stakeholders hope Guthrie balances financial needs with consideration of local jobs.
Guthrie is a large regional integrated healthcare delivery network serving patients across Pennsylvania and New York through its hospitals, clinics, home care, and medical groups. Founded in 1910, it has grown to a five-hospital system with over 700 physicians across 32 care sites.
