Guyana to expand its CVQ initiative to 34 more schools

Guyana’s Ministry of Education plans to introduce the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in another 34 secondary schools, targeting 2,000 students.
CVQ is a Caribbean technical and vocational certification from the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).
According to Deputy Chief Education Officer- Technical Dr. Ritesh Tularam, the CVQ is meant to guarantee that all students, in the future, will graduate with technical skills.
Meanwhile, Council for Technical Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) Director Patrick Chinedu Onwuzirike stated that the ministry’s focus on technical and vocational skills is primarily needed to supplement Guyana’s ongoing transformation.
With the ongoing developments in the country, Onwuzirike said that the certification would provide Guyana with a large pool of well-skilled workers able to meet the labor demands.
For his part, Chief Education Officer Dr. Marcel Hutson stressed that secondary school graduates in Guyana must not be at risk of unemployment after completing their studies.
