Guyana to invest in call center infrastructure

The government of Guyana agreed to fund the construction of two buildings that will house call centers that would generate 1,500 jobs next year.
During his 2022 budget presentation to the National Assembly, Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh said that this move is due to the rising Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in the country.
Between August 2020 and December 2021, about 1,131 jobs were created by the sector.
The government has also partnered with the private sectors last year to open several employment opportunities for locals.
Last year, a call center in the city of Linden was reopened and provided jobs to 125 persons. It is anticipated that a further 100 persons will be employed there by June of this year.
Singh also visited BPO centers across the country and stated that the government intends to continue working with the sector to ensure its continued growth, as this will allow for the creation of thousands of jobs and the generation of income for many families
The news comes a few months after BPO provider Teleperformance announced that it was looking for a larger building in Guyana to add 1,500 new employees to its workforce.
