High demand for women returnees seen in India’s BPOs
MUMBAI, INDIA — The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in India emerged as one of the top sectors showing significant demand for women rejoining the workforce in May 2023.
According to data from talent platform foundit, BPO/ITES/call centers recorded the third-highest share of job postings (14%) for women returnees.
Other sectors that demonstrated considerable demand include telecom/ISP (19%), recruitment/staffing (15%), advertising PR MR and events (12%), and IT (11%).
In terms of specific roles, software development roles held the maximum share of demand (33%) for women returnees, followed by HR/admin (18%), operations (12%), finance and accounts (11%), analytics (8%), and content (7%).
“While there are government-mandated policies in place, including paid maternity leave and other benefits, career reboots are often challenging for women, especially with job hunting hurdles and additional responsibilities,” said foundit CEO Sekhar Garisa.
“It is heartening to see that more and more industries are opening up to hiring women returnees for roles in HR, software development, and finance,” Garisa added.
foundit’s data also revealed that companies offer flexible arrangements such as part-time work, work-from-home options, and job-sharing arrangements to facilitate a better work-life balance for women.
Some organizations even provide childcare support, such as onsite daycare facilities or subsidized childcare expenses, to help working parents manage their responsibilities effectively.
