‘Human Approach’ is the future of HR, says Gartner
CONNECTICUT, UNITED STATES – While hybrid work becomes the standard work arrangement for most companies in the world, human resource (HR) leaders believe that leadership styles should be shifted to a human-centric approach.
According to Gartner’s Future of Work Reinvented 2022 Survey, 90% of HR leaders say that future success requires leaders to operate in a more human way.
The survey revealed that CEOs rate culture as their biggest concern when it comes to in-office and work-from-home policies for knowledge workers, and HR leaders say the most challenging aspect of hybrid strategy is adjusting their current culture to be supportive of their workforce.
Gartner’s study suggests that there are two key components to creating a successful culture in the hybrid workforce namely alignment and connectedness.
The study noted that for a culture to succeed in a hybrid world, leaders must work intentionally to align and connect employees to it. Effective hybrid leaders are human leaders who are authentic, empathetic and adaptive to individual employees.
The traditional face-to-face proximity offered by onsite work have long been the default way to foster connectedness among employees. Hybrid has done away with that, creating a gap leaders must fill given that 76% of employees say organizational culture is important for them to be effective in their jobs. Strengthening culture connectedness, therefore, is key for a successful and sustainable hybrid workplace, said Gartner.
According to Gartner, employee “connectedness” to the company culture can be increased by 43% if it is diffused through work. Emotional proximity can increase “connectedness” by 27%. Meanwhile, micro-based experiences increase “connectedness” by 19%.
