Hybrid work becomes norm for 25 million employees – study

NEW DELHI, INDIA — About 25 million employees globally are now returning to offices as hybrid work becomes the norm, according to a new study from the anonymous professional network, Blind.
Blind’s report, which analyzed over 1,500 companies across the globe, reveals that 883 (58%) now require employees to report at least one day a week in the office.
Notably, 46% of the companies mandate 3-4 office days, while only 9% require a full 5-day in-office workweek. Another 500 companies have hybrid policies dependent on team, job, and location.
The COVID-19 pandemic initially forced companies to implement remote work and close offices. However, last year, tech giants like Apple, Meta, Amazon and Google began asking some staff to return to a hybrid model.
Major employers, such as Microsoft and United Airlines, now embrace flexible hybrid arrangements, as employees can split time between home and centralized offices based on preferences and productivity needs.
Experts anticipate that this trend will continue to grow, with up to 36 million Americans (22% of the workforce) working remotely or in hybrid setups by 2025, representing an 87% increase.
Salary data shows those on hybrid schedules earn the most at $80,000 on average, benefiting from flexibility without fully losing in-person collaboration.
While not all roles can go remote, hybrid work is clearly becoming the post-pandemic ‘new normal.’
