Hybrid work model key to retaining Indian tech women: study

NEW DELHI, INDIA — A study by the women’s group IWWAGE revealed that a hybrid work model is essential to retain women in India’s tech sector.
According to the firm, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted a shift to remote work, disproportionately affecting women, especially in traditionally patriarchal societies.
The survey from IWWAGE indicates that women aged 33-55 prefer a hybrid work model. Conversely, women at the beginning of their careers often choose office-based work, even when offered a hybrid alternative.
The preference for hybrid work among women is largely due to the increased domestic responsibilities they often undertake when working remotely.
Blurring the boundaries between professional and personal life can also lead to longer working hours and deteriorating mental health.
Adopting a hybrid work model is key since women constitute 30% of India’s IT sector workforce—the highest female participation rate.
IWWAGE maintains that such flexibility can improve efficiency and productivity by saving commuting time and effort and offering greater control over work schedules.
Moreover, this flexible approach allows companies to access a diverse talent pool from different geographical regions.
