IBPAP revamps 2028 Roadmap for AI-aligned growth

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Information Technology & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) is revising its 2028 industry roadmap in a strategic move to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence (AI) landscape.
This update, in collaboration with Everest Group, aims to realign the sector’s objectives with the advancements in AI technology.
IBPAP’s initiative reflects a proactive approach to the challenges and opportunities presented by generative AI (GenAI).
“The AI landscape is a battleground, demanding a strategic update to align goals with the ever-evolving realities of the Philippine IT-BPM sector. IBPAP stated, emphasizing the importance of upskilling and re-skilling to meet ambitious targets for job creation and revenue by 2025.
The updated roadmap sets a goal to generate an additional 1.1 million jobs within six years, aiming to expand the sector’s workforce to 2.5 million by 2028. Additionally, it targets to achieve $59 billion in revenue, marking a significant growth milestone for the industry.
IBPAP President and CEO Jack Madrid highlighted the unique position of the Philippines in the GenAI wave, stating, “As the Philippine IT-BPM industry rides the GenAI (generative AI) wave, the nation is uniquely positioned to seize opportunities.”
Madrid’s vision for the future is one where innovation and tradition coexist, shaping a thriving IT-BPM sector that navigates the challenges and potentials of AI.
The roadmap refresh is part of IBPAP’s broader strategy to harness AI’s potential to enhance productivity and business value while also addressing the need for an upskilling revolution.
“Delving into AI applications, mastering data handling, and sharpening emotional intelligence and creativity skills are becoming the norm,” IBPAP acknowledged, underlining the importance of preparing the workforce for the AI era.
