PH, ICT Davao to create unautomated jobs in Davao region

DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES — The Philippine Department of Information and Communications Technology Region (DICT) – XI and the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Davao have joined forces to tackle the challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and boost job opportunities for the people in the region.
In a press conference, ICT Davao president Xavier Eric Manalastas announced their collaboration to organize ICT skills training programs.
The initiative aims to upskill unautomated jobs and create employment in various sectors such as business analytics, creativity, cyber security, sustainable operation, and environment management. By equipping the local workforce with relevant skills, they hope to counter potential job displacements caused by AI automation.
“Our goal is to generate 150,000 jobs in IT-BPM (Information Technology and Business Process Management) by 2028. That is our contribution to the national IT-BPM world map for 2028,” said Manalastas.
The IT-BPM industry in the Davao region currently employs 75,000 individuals. With the training program underway, they seek to double this workforce by enhancing the skills of existing professionals and preparing new talent.
In addition to their efforts in Davao City, the DICT-XI and ICT Davao have plans to collaborate with other ICT councils in the region to generate employment opportunities in Tagum, Mati, and Digos cities.
