Tourism, BPO job openings showcased in Iloilo job fair

ILOILO, PHILIPPINES — A total of 2,279 job openings were recently announced in the Philippine region of Western Visayas, known for its renowned tourist spot Boracay.
The regional Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) held a 2-day job fair that began on March 30 in Jaro district, Iloilo City. Forty companies from across the region were featured.
The job fair showcased non-tourism employment opportunities from business process outsourcing (BPO) firms and job openings in hotels, restaurants, recreation parks, and spas.
“When you talk of tourism, it’s not just about destinations. We also talk about the job it generates,” said DOT-Western Visayas Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez.
Not only does the Philippines attract tourists, but it also draws in outsourcing businesses. According to the 2019 report, the outsourcing sector recorded a 7.3% contribution to the growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
