India gov’t sets deadline for Infosys’ income tax portal

The Indian government has set a deadline on September 15 for Infosys to fix the glitches in the newly launched income tax filing portal, said a statement released by the Income Tax (I-T) Department.
The issuance of a deadline happened in a meeting between the country’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Infosys CEO Salil Parekh in Delhi.
During the meeting, Sitharaman emphasized the resolution of the issues faced by taxpayers on the portal’s functionalities and Infosys’ responsibility to deliver the agreed services ensured in the contract.
The tech consulting firm has assigned 750 employees to work on this project led by COO Pravin Rao.
Infosys was awarded the Rs 4,242 crore (approximately US$572 million) contract in 2019 to develop a next-generation income tax filing system for the country.
