UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA — Hiring in India’s IT sector declined by 1% year-on-year in July, marking a slowdown from June’s 5% growth, according to the latest Naukri JobSpeak report

IT sector slowdown contrasts with sustained demand

This is a part of a broader market that is in a cautious mood, and niche fields like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) were just about flat at 41% hiring stability.

The dip in IT hiring contrasts with the 5% growth in global capability centers (GCCs), though this was slower than June’s 11% surge.

Experts suggest that while traditional IT roles face pressure, specialized tech domains like AI continue to attract investment, keeping demand steady despite sector-wide fluctuations.

Non-IT sectors drive fresher hiring

Non-IT industries fueled a 7% overall rise in white-collar hiring, led by hospitality with 26% and insurance with 22%.

Fresh recruitment grew by over 8%, driven by strong demand in education, oil & gas, and real estate—particularly in South India, where Coimbatore and Kochi saw 17% and 15% spikes, respectively.

Meanwhile, hiring for professionals with more than 16 years of experience rose 13%, driven by business process outsourcing (BPO), information technology enabled services (ITeS), pharma, and biotech sectors. Metro cities also saw unicorn-led hiring surges, with Chennai topping at 32%, followed by Delhi NCR with 31% and Pune with 22%.

Chief Business Officer of Naukri, Pawan Goyal, noted, “Non-IT sectors have been showing solid hiring momentum for a while now, especially when it comes to fresher roles. It’s encouraging to see this consistent demand coming from industries like hospitality, insurance, and education.”

The figures highlight a changing job market. Meanwhile, industries such as hospitality, insurance, and GCCs come into play, diminishing the effect of jobs in India, a tendency that is very likely to transform the employment market in India.
