Indian agency axes 15 outsourced staff

MYSURU, INDIA — The Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has terminated the services of 15 outsourced employees in the wake of a recent fake bank challan scam that caused substantial revenue losses.
MUDA Commissioner G.T. Dinesh Kumar confirmed to local media the staff dismissals, including data entry operators and ‘D’ Group employees, on charges of accepting bribes to issue records like Khata Registration and Transfer.
Kumar revealed that four employees have gone into hiding since the scam emerged, switching off their cell phones.
An inspection of records indicated the complicity of at least 15 outsourced workers, many of whom lacked the necessary skills but were hired due to political influence.
Kumar emphasized that such under-skilled employees have been detrimental to MUDA operations.
MUDA is a government organization that oversees urban planning and infrastructure development in Mysuru, India. It currently employs 60-70 outsourced staff, with only 40-50 possessing the required abilities, according to Kumar.
As a cost-cutting move, excess employees will be terminated. Kumar added that additional measures will be implemented to ensure financial transparency moving forward.
The scam has raised suspicions about the involvement of case workers, zonal officers, special tahsildars, and office superintendents over the years, resulting in major revenue losses.
