Indian IT firms invest $236K for training, development

NEW DELHI, INDIA — The Indian IT sector is channeling substantial funds into staff training, averaging an annual spend of Rs 1.97 crore (US$236,000) per company.
According to the India’s Best Workplaces in IT & IT-BPM 2023 report by Great Place to Work India, this trend underscores a shift towards skill enhancement in key areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing.
Key findings show that 68% of companies are proactively nurturing their workforce at various levels, an effort critical for both productivity and retention in a sluggish hiring market.
Around 82% of IT employees also stated that they received training and development opportunities in their jobs.
Given recent job cuts and pay reductions in the sector, the report also emphasized the need to maintain employee morale.
The report also pointed out an alarming trend of burnout in India IT sector, especially among female senior managers who face a 5% higher rate compared to males.
To counter challenges, the report introduces “Workplace Ikigai,” promoting a balance between personal interests and career growth.
Accenture and Wipro feature prominently in the top 25 of the survey’s Best Workplaces list. Other leading firms include VOIS, Akamai Technologies, Atlassian, and Blue Yonder, with Infosys and Happiest Minds appearing in the 26-50 bracket.
