Indian IT giants to hire over 70K fresh grads after a year-long pause
NEW DELHI, INDIA — Leading IT companies such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro, and IBM have restarted their campus recruitment drives across India after hitting pause for a year.
This resurgence in hiring activities aims to attract skilled programmers and digital specialists. The initial phase of placements kicked off in July 2024, with these firms visiting various colleges to scout fresh talent.
TCS, Infosys, and Wipro drive hiring efforts
TCS, the largest IT company in India, plans to recruit 40,000 fresh graduates this year. Infosys is also actively hiring, targeting between 15,000 to 20,000 freshers through both campus and off-campus initiatives.
Despite a significant drop in campus recruits from 50,000 last year to 11,900 this financial year, Infosys remains dedicated to workforce expansion.
Wipro is making a notable return after a four-quarter hiatus from campus hiring. The company intends to hire 10,000 to 12,000 freshers in the current financial year.
“We will return to the campuses with which we have partnerships,” stated Wipro HR head Saurabh Govil. He also mentioned that off-campus hiring will be pursued to achieve recruitment goals.
Competitive salaries reflect growing demand
The demand for digital talent prompted companies to offer competitive salaries ranging from ₹6 lakh to ₹9 lakh (US$7,000 to US$10,000) for skilled positions. This shift from traditional entry-level roles with lower pay scales highlights the evolving landscape of IT recruitment.
Shailendra Vidhate, training and placement officer at the engineering college of the NMIMS group, noted that the selection process has become more stringent, with eligibility cut-off percentages rising from 60% to 70%.
Innovative recruitment strategies emerge
IT companies are evolving their recruitment strategies by moving beyond traditional coding tests. As part of the assessment process, they now evaluate candidates’ social media profiles and certifications.
This comprehensive approach aims to gain deeper insights into applicants’ skills and backgrounds.
Promising prospects for engineering graduates
The renewed emphasis on campus placements offers promising career opportunities for recent engineering graduates.
Ashok Mittal, Chancellor of Lovely Professional University, reported a significant increase in recruitment numbers this year compared to the previous year.
He added that about 1,350 students have been recruited so far this year compared to 600 during the same period last year.
