India’s tech giants to axe 2.5K new recruits after screening failure

MUMBAI, INDIA — Software service providers could let go of around 2,500 fresh grad recruits for failing screening tests months after they were onboarded.
According to Anshuman Das, CEO and co-founder of talent solutions provider Careernet, this figure is larger than last year as campus hires in the past two years dropped due to the pandemic.
The screening tests typically happen within a year of a campus recruit joining an IT firm and are done to assess whether the new hires will match the requirements of ongoing client projects.
Media reports already say that Infosys could let go of around 600 employees in the next few months. Wipro, meanwhile, stated that the 452 individuals that they have laid off were due to poor performance post-training.
On the other hand, HCL Technologies said that they are not conducting screening tests after recruitment.
Some industry experts, however, claimed that some companies are just downsizing after taking on more people than they needed during the pandemic.
