UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA — Infosys has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Makers Lab at Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) in Lucknow, marking a significant investment in advanced technology education, according to a report by The Times of India

The purpose of the facility is to help better prepare both the teachers and the students in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and the IoT, as well as giving them physical access to building 3D printers and other prototyping equipment.

“Makers Lab set up by Infosys is a state-of-the-art laboratory that has Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and 3D Printers learning facilities for teachers and students,” said Anuj Sharma, Dean of Academics.

Bridging India’s advanced technology skills gap

There will be a five-day faculty development initiative, specifically targeting selected teachers in AKTU across the state to ensure they are well-versed in the disciplines.

The approach is essential in ensuring that a long-term cycle of skilled instructors is able to spread the knowledge of modernity among a larger proportion of students.

Besides teacher training, the lab will provide the students with free access to close to 19,000 online courses available under the technical, non-technical, business communication, and science sectors.

This extensive program, safely coupled with access to real robotics, AI, and IoT-accelerated hardware, constitutes a complete knowledge environment.

With the initiative aimed at facilitating the innovative culture and the pragmatic development of skills of young people, one virtually passes the stage of theoretical knowledge, getting closer to the approaches of creating products and resolving problems.

Innovation hub with 24/7 prototyping facilities

The lab is strategically located to operate 24/7 as an innovation hub, featuring a 24-hour idea lab equipped by the AICTE-AKTU. It offers mechanical, electrical, and electronics laboratory infrastructures specifically meant to enable students to transform their creative ideas into working prototypes.

This is an important resource in fostering entrepreneurship and applied innovation, where students can play with their ideas, resulting in a practical and applicable solution to a real-world problem.

In offering these progressive capabilities, Infosys and AKTU are creating a vibrant, technology-driven environment and product development. The program extends beyond conventional education by helping in the full innovation cycle, from ideation to prototyping

Besides enhancing the educational outcomes, this model also positively impacts the economy of the region where it is instituted since the newly graduated professionals are bound to ensure regional economic growth through their contributions to the advancement of a technology-driven economy.

Shaping the next generation of global innovators

The move by Infosys and AKTU in setting up a next-generation innovation lab is an ideal case study of corporate citizenship. This goes beyond traditional outsourcing measures in displaying a significant investment in societal betterment in the form of education and skills enhancement.
