Infosys to invest in million-dollar campus, creating 2,500 jobs

BENGALURU and PUNJAB, INDIA — Infosys has announced the development of a ₹300 crore (US$33.8 million) campus in Mohali under Punjab’s Mission Investment initiative, announced by Punjab Industry Minister Sanjeev Arora.
According to The Indian Express, the project, set to unfold in phases, aims to create 2,500 high-paying jobs and 210 indirect employment opportunities, marking a significant step toward reviving Punjab’s IT sector.
Infosys is an IT and technology consulting and outsourcing firm that provides end-to-end business process management (BPM) and IT solutions, and employs over 300,000 individuals. The company also ranked #11 in the OA500 2025, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.
Punjab’s Mission Investment is the Innovation Mission Punjab (IMPunjab), which pushes for the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by connecting local startups with global investors and facilitating crucial fundraising.
Infosys’ significant investment and expansion plans in Mohali
Government initiatives to simplify policies and expedite approvals also contributed to Infosys’ progress with the project. One of the company officials said, “The government’s investor-friendly framework has accelerated our timelines.”
The growth is not just a sign of Infosys‘ interest in the region, but also a significant step towards the state’s overarching agenda to revamp its IT infrastructure and attract more investments in the field.
The second phase of the project is already being discussed, and this phase will increase the size by 480,000 square feet, bringing the overall size closer to the initial level as planned.
Revival of Infosys’ Mohali journey after setbacks
Infosys‘ journey in Mohali has been a long and challenging one, marked by setbacks, delays, and challenges. The company has been familiar with the region since 2012, when Punjab actively sought Infosys as part of its ambitious IT City project, located around and at the Mohali International Airport.
In February 2014, the foundation stone for a 50-acre campus in Sector 83 was laid by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Infosys Founder N R Narayana Murthy. The project was initially planned grandly and was expected to grow to a total of 20,000 jobs and a total investment of over ₹1,000 crore (US$112.6 million).
The way to realization was not an easy one, though. The project did not receive environmental clearances until 2016, and the non-existent completion of roads and unreliable supply of utilities were other bottlenecks that prolonged the project.
By 2017, a modest office had been established, which housed 900 employees, and much of the IT City space remained untapped. The passion of investors had waned, and most firms were choosing to relinquish their plots rather than pursue stagnant development.
Infosys boosts Mohali’s IT growth with new campus
The new Infosys campus is a new step in the IT dreams of Mohali. With the rise of infrastructure and investment policies, Infosys is rethinking its initial outlook in the region and is currently eager to explore its potential.
The completion of subsequent phases will not only create additional jobs but also provide a strong foundation for other companies to invest, making the region a prime destination for the IT sector.
