Infosys now allows employees to entertain gig work

Days after speaking out against moonlighting, tech services giant Infosys announced that they are now allowing its employees to take up ‘gig’ work as long as it has prior consent from managers and does not pose a conflict of interest.
In an internal email, Infosys informed its workers that “any employee, who wishes to take up gig work, may do so, with the prior consent of their manager and BP-HR, and in their personal time, for establishments that do not compete with Infosys or Infosys’ clients.”
The company added that they are counting on their workforce to ensure that this does not impact their ability to work with the company effectively.
This development comes at a time when the debate around moonlighting or dual employment grabbed multiple headlines in India’s business world. IT giants Wipro, TCS, and HCL Technologies made it clear that taking up ‘gig’ work outside the company will not be tolerated.
This makes Infosys the first large software services company in India to allow ‘gig’ work to its employees.
