Infosys warns employees against ‘moonlighting’

IT giant Infosys released an internal note that warns its workforce against moonlighting, stating that such practice could eventually result in termination.
In an email tagged with words like “NO TWO-TIMING – NO MOONLIGHTING,” the firm stated that accepting employment from other companies is not permitted under their Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.
“This can pose serious challenges to our business such as [the] impact on productivity, job performance, risk of data and confidential information leakage, etc,” Infosys added.
Moonlighting is the practice of taking up a second job during or outside regular office hours.
According to the IT company, the shift to remote work contributed to its rise, especially within the IT sector, as it is easier to hold a second job without their primary employer knowing.
Most private companies have policies in place that prohibit this and take strict actions against employees with outside gigs. However, some firms allow their employees to work a second job, especially if they are on a contract basis.
Infosys is not the only India-based IT giant that raised alarm about moonlighting. Recently, Wipro Executive Chairman Rishad Premji expressed concern about this growing trend in the IT sector and even called it “cheating.”
