IT-BPM to lead export plan

The Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry is expected to take the lead in the Philippine Exports Development Plan (PEDP) 2022-2027, said Department of Trade and Industry (TI) Secretary Ramon Lopez.
During the Laging Handa press briefing, Lopez noted that there is a big need for expanding the country’s IT-BPM exports as “a big chunk of our exports are accounted for by basically the big exporters and big sectors like electronics at 60%…”
The growing trend in service and creative exports like outsourcing, film, music, software, and game development has also influenced the agency’s move.
Last October, a study by the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines showed that the sector’s revenue is projected to reach $28.8 billion by year-end, with a further eight per cent growth in 2022.
Lopez added that other products — such as gifts and housewares, design-oriented garments and furniture, and halal items — also have the potential to boost the Philippines’ export industry.
