IT-BPO sector leads 3.42% job growth in India

The Information Technology-Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) industry has led the 3.42% employment growth in India with 152% since 2014, according to the latest Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) by the labor ministry.
This was followed by the 77% employment increase in the health sector.
Meanwhile, manufacturing jobs grew by 22%, the education sector rose by 39%, the transport sector at 68%, the construction sector at 42%, and financial services at 48%.
The survey, conducted with 10,900 establishments as participants, showed that the key sectors in the country employed about 30.8 million people at the end of June this year, up by 29% from the last assessment during March 2014 with 23.7 million.
Labor economist K.R. Shyam Sundar said that the industries that have shown impressive numbers in the survey “are the sectors that got a push due to massive demand for technology and its adoption post the pandemic outbreak.”
Industries affected by the pandemic such as trade declined by 25% and the hotels and restaurant sector dropped by 13%.
