IT firms shift to virtual onboarding amid lockdown

Some IT firms in India have switched to virtual onboarding of new hires, both experienced and newly graduated, amid the Covid-19 lockdown. While some large IT firms such as Infosys, TCS and Mindtree are reportedly not honouring the job offers they made, Wipro, Accenture and Tech Mahindra are said to have started onboarding virtually.
An executive from Accenture India said the company is honouring all offers made so far, and associated benefits are effective from the date of joining. Meanwhile, Harshvendra Soin, chief people officer at Tech Mahindra, said while the pandemic remains a critical concern among businesses worldwide, all the offer letters that the company issued to lateral recruits and management trainees will be respected.
Wipro also said that it will honour all offer letters made to recruits. Kamal Karanth, co-founder of staffing solutions firm Xpheno, said some companies are choosing either to delay the joining date of candidates or ask the candidates to remain in their current jobs, with some even compensating them with a month’s salary.
