IT graduates to boost Cebu’s tech sector
CEBU, PHILIPPINES — Danao City marked a milestone in its journey to becoming an IT hub with the graduation of 100 pioneering students from its IT-Business Process Management (IT-BPM) Scholarship program.
Of the 100 graduates, 75 completed the Contact Center Services NCII course and 25 finished the Events Management Services NCIII program accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).
In a statement, the Danao City Government said the graduation signifies the “initial phase of Danao City’s evolution into a key player in the IT-BPM industry.”
Mayor Mix Durano and Vice Mayor Nito Durano attended the ceremony and congratulated the graduates. The city also announced plans for more graduates from various accredited courses in the coming months as part of its goal to be a model sustainable city in Cebu.
To further boost job opportunities for residents, an Investment Forum and Jobs Fair will take place in Danao City on September 22, where IT-BPM companies will be invited to participate.
The free IT-BPM Scholarship Program was launched in partnership with Call Center Academy earlier this year to provide training and access for aspiring IT-BPM workers in Danao City.
The Philippines’ IT-BPM industry is expected to grow rapidly over the next 5 years, providing opportunities for emerging cities like Danao. With continued investment in training and infrastructure, Cebu’s “next wave cities” are poised to benefit from the industry’s expansion nationwide.
