Jamaica adds 6K BPO workers amid COVID-19

Jamaica’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry added about 6,000 employees during the past two years despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Holness said that the job opportunities in the sector go beyond call center operations. He explained that it also incorporates knowledge services, which require advanced analytical and technical skills.
The PM added that Jamaica is “well placed” to deliver the various services, including back-office operations such as reviewing legal and medical documents, booking flights, high-value programming and coding, and data operations.
“Jamaica is entering all the levels of the BPO industry,” Holness pointed out.
Jamaica has the largest BPO market in the Caribbean region, covering telecommunications, banking, insurance, healthcare, finance and accounting, gaming, and tech support.
The country has had a strong track record in attracting investments in the sector by consistently demonstrating the capacity to provide high-quality service in customer care, human resource outsourcing (HRO), receivables management, technical helpdesk support, and outbound sales, and lead generation.
To date, the BPO sector employs about 54,000 workers all over Jamaica. Holness added that they are looking to engage 300,000 BPO employees in the future.
