Jamaica is now the “most important” BPO location in the Caribbean

Jamaica has grown to be the most important Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) location in the English-speaking Caribbean region due to the prospects of greater investments in 2022 according to consulting firm Ryan Strategic Advisory.
The report stated that the island has an admirable record in the customer experience segment. The firm also noted that “Jamaica’s positioning is highly favorable, not only from a nearshore perspective but also for demand markets further afield.”
Several BPO firms — including Transparent BPO, itel, Ibex, Iterum Connections, and Ventrica — announced the expansion of their operations into the country.
In preparation for the further development in the sector, the Jamaican government established a BPO Task Force to facilitate the ease of doing business and implemented tax incentives for foreign investors.
Employment in the outsourcing sector has also increased by 15% over the past year with 44,000 people employed as of June 30, 2021.
The BPO industry has also reportedly contributed US$780 million to the Jamaican economy despite the pandemic.
Going forward, the Government said it is committed to the implementation of the National Five-year Global Digital Services Strategy, to expand and transform the BPO industry in Jamaica and increase the sector’s employment to 70,000 jobs by 2025.
