Jamaica to launch third BPO incubator

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA — Businessman and real estate developer Mark Kerr-Jarrett recently announced the launch of the third Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) incubator in Jamaica, set to be located at Montego Bay’s Barnett Tech Park.
The new initiative, called Barnett Business Centre, aims to support and provide smaller BPO players with opportunities to establish their operations and plan for future expansion.
The incubator’s construction has begun, promising to complement the existing BPO companies like Vistaprint and Conduent at the tech park.
The facility will offer 80,000 square feet of space that can be divided into more modest segments, giving smaller businesses a chance to scale up gradually.
“The idea with the incubators is that in three to five years, or maybe less, when the people in the incubator want to expand, we will then build them a large space — a between 50,000 and 75,000 square feet building for themselves — so they’ll grow into the tech park,” said Kerr-Jarrett.
Alongside the BPO sector players, Barnett Business Centre will also accommodate commercial spaces for supporting businesses, thereby nurturing a balanced ecosystem that caters to clients’ diverse needs.
Incubators like the one at Barnett Tech Park provide resources such as high-speed internet, telephones, PCs, headphones, and software and training programs in customer service, sales, and marketing.
Building BPO incubators in Jamaica demonstrates the nation’s commitment to growing its outsourcing industry, which is expected to expand to approximately 75,000 employees by 2025.
