Jamaica to teach coding in schools

Jamaica is planning to teach Coding in all of its schools on the island as they gear up to reform the educational system to build a digital economy.
Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness said that students from classes one to thirteen across all public schools will be taught how to code as well as basic numeracy, language, and problem-solving skills.
The PM stated that their goal is to transform the nation into a “regional Silicon Valley” and provide students with the education and skills required for them to function correctly in a digital economy.
Holness added that they are looking to ensure that all graduating students will have the foundational literacies in the digital sector.
The government of Jamaica also announced that they have teamed up with software solutions company Amber Innovations and telecommunication and home entertainment provider Digicel Group to introduce coding to schools.
