Japan firms invest P1.8bn in ecozones from January to April 2021

Japan remains to be the Philippines’ number one source of foreign investments, as a total of 16 Japanese firms invested worth P1.8 billion in economic zones with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) in the first four months of 2021 alone.
According to PEZA deputy director-general Tereso Panga, the 16 Japanese projects are expected to generate 1,142 jobs for manufacturing (7 firms), IT (4), and logistics (3).
There are now 974 Japanese locators in the various ecozones administered by PEZA from 1995 up to April 2021, bringing the total Japanese investments to P716.22 billion or 27% of all approved ecozone investments since 1995.
“When it comes to ecozone foreign direct investments, the Japanese [have] always been the number 1 investor of PEZA… We remain bullish that the Japanese will continue to be our number 1 investor in PEZA not only this year but for many years to come,” said Panga.
