Lateness top hiring turn-off for managers – survey

MONTROUGE, FRANCE — A new survey from cloud communications company Ringover reveals the “icks” or behaviors that irritate hiring managers the most during job interviews.
The study surveyed 1,200 managers with remote and in-person interview experience across sectors to uncover their biggest icks.
Results show that 35.8% of hiring managers are immediately turned off by candidates arriving late to interviews. Additionally, 30.7% feel negatively towards applicants who fail to properly research the company prior to the interview.
Other findings include:
- 33.7% of hiring managers are bothered when candidates make no eye contact
- 32% dislike late video callers
- 30.1% are irritated by interviewees who are distracted and speak to someone off-camera
- 33% believe that interruptions and using speakerphone are top annoyances
The survey confirms that first impressions still matter greatly in the hiring process. From being punctual to demonstrating genuine interest in the company, candidates must be mindful of their behavior from the initial screening to the final round.
“While the process might seem simple, job seekers can still sell themselves short, giving off the wrong vibe that can quickly end their application,” the report said.
