Latin America welcomes remote work

Countries from the Latin American region are accelerating the implementation of their new remote work measures and regulations. This is the case for Brazil, Colombia, and Peru, which are implementing remote work laws that push for hybrid model opportunities.
In Brazil, remote work and telework have been subject to continuous extraordinary regulatory measures to promote flexibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The most recent legal regulations are Provisional Measure No. 1,108 and Provisional Measure No. 1,109, which clarified the definition of “remote work” in the country.
Colombia, meanwhile, implemented three modalities of distance work in the nation — telework, work at home, and remote work. Recently, the Colombian Ministry of Labor issued Decree 555 on April 9, 2022, regulating the remote work law, and Decree 649 on April 27, 2022.
On January 11, 2021, the Mexican government issued the Decree that enacted the remote work regulation in Mexico. However, on July 18, 2022, the 18-month term given by the Mexican government to the Mexican Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare to publish an Official Mexican Norm (NOM) regulating the obligations regarding occupational safety and health will expire.
Lastly, Peru is regulating telework and remote work for its local workforce. This allows employees to work without physical presence at the office through technological means, providing a more flexible arrangement for its people.
