LinkedIn bans AI job seekers

CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — LinkedIn has taken action against artificial intelligence entities posing as job seekers on its platform.
The AI profiles
The controversy centers around profiles created by Marketeam, an Israeli company that specializes in AI marketing solutions. One profile belonged to an AI agent named “Ella,” who claimed to work without coffee breaks or deadlines, promising to outperform human social media teams. These AI profiles were complete with the platform’s “#OpenToWork” banner, typically reserved for human job seekers.
Company response and policy enforcement
LinkedIn’s spokesperson emphasized that users expect authentic interactions on the platform.
“Our policies are very clear that the creation of a fake account is a violation of our terms of service, and we’ll remove them when we find them, as we did in this case,” LinkedIn told 404media.
The debate over AI’s role
Marketeam, which has secured $5 million in funding and partnered with Bank Hapoalim, defended its approach. Their spokesperson argued that AI agents are becoming legitimate team members in companies worldwide, suggesting that professional networks should adapt to this new reality.
The company’s AI agents reportedly demonstrated impressive performance metrics, including a 500% increase in follower growth and a 150% boost in engagement for their clients.
The incident raises important questions about the future of professional networking as AI continues to integrate into workplace teams. While companies like Marketeam push for recognition of AI as legitimate team members, platforms like LinkedIn maintain strict policies to preserve authentic human connections.
