Fiji Deputy PM: Low data costs attracts outsourcing investments

SUVA, FIJI — Fiji’s low mobile data cost is among the reasons why the country is attracting more international outsourcing firms, said Minister for Communications and Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica.
The island nation’s mobile data only costs US$1.50 per 10 gigabytes (GB), the lowest in the Oceania Region and the fourth cheapest globally.
Around 95% of Fijians also have access to a 3G, 4G, or 4G+ network, while the government is already working on expanding its mobile network to 240 unconnected sites within the country.
Kamikamica added that digital connectivity and transformation are high on the government’s technology and ICT priorities, with several initiatives underway to bridge the nation’s digital divide.
Moreover, Fiji is undertaking a feasibility study to set up a second cable landing station, which will provide domestic and regional redundancy and connectivity throughout the country.
This will also sustain our digitalization efforts,” Kamikamica added.
