Malacañang to announce new quarantine status on Thursday

Malacañang will announce the new quarantine status of the National Capital Region (NCR) and other select areas on Thursday, according to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
In a press briefing, Roque said that the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease) would hold a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the issue, release its recommendations on Wednesday and, considering the appeals from the local governments, finalize its decision on Thursday.
The Philippines’ capital city and its neighboring towns are under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the strictest level of quarantine classification, until August 20.
The presidential spokesperson said that their objective is to lower the number of COVID-19 cases while preventing the “increase in the ranks of the hungry.”
“So we will see the data, there are a few days more [to go under the ECQ period],” Roque concluded.
